What is Spirulina?
Spirulina is a bluish-green algae, found in freshwater lakes in Africa and North America. It is harvested in the wild and may help in improving immunity.
But is everything found in nature good for the body?
Spirulina is harvested in the wild and contains a significant risk of contamination which may or may not be removed by the manufacturers. Particles like microcystins also pose a risk.

Who should avoid Spirulina?
1. Consumption of Spirulina should be strictly avoided in rare conditions such as Phenylketonuria.
2. People taking blood thinners or having bleeding disorders, since Spirulina thins the blood increasing the time for blood clotting.
3. Individuals with autoimmune disorders, where the immune system itself attacks the body, and the benefit of Spirulina improving immunity may not help in such cases.
